Born on May 9, 1950, in Springfield, Illinois, Luann spent her formative years in Divernon, where she attended grade and high school. Her upbringing in this community instilled in her strong values of hard work and integrity. She pursued higher education at the University of Illinois, graduating in 1973 with a degree that would launch her into a career dedicated to shaping young minds. Her educational journey reflected a commitment to learning and personal growth that would define her professional and personal life.
Luann began her professional career as an elementary school teacher, serving students in Keokuk, Iowa, and Phoenix, Arizona, for four years. Her time in the classroom was marked by patience and compassion, earning her the respect of colleagues and the affection of her students.
In 1977, she returned to Illinois to marry Henry C. Kurth, the love of her life, marking a significant transition in her personal and professional trajectory. This union provided the foundation for a partnership that would span nearly five decades, characterized by mutual support and shared dreams.
In a bold move that showcased her entrepreneurial spirit, Luann co-owned and operated the D H Brown Saloon in Springfield, Illinois, for 38 years. The establishment became a local landmark, known for its welcoming atmosphere and Luann’s attentive hospitality. She managed the business with diligence and grace, creating a space where community members could gather and connect. Her long tenure as a business owner demonstrated her resilience and adaptability, qualities that allowed her to thrive in a competitive industry while maintaining strong ties to her hometown.
The couple welcomed their son, Edward, in 1981, a joyous event that further anchored Luann’s life in family and community. Bramley Funeral Home, situated at 150 Reichert Road in Divernon, will host a memorial ceremony on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. The Reception Hall will host a luncheon right after, giving friends and relatives a chance to honor her life and exchange memories. She will be buried in her family grave at Brush Creek Cemetery at a later time, providing for a private goodbye. These arrangements provide an organized setting for group tributes and grieving.
