Juliane “Ann” Elisabeth Hudson (nee Carter), a cherished Burlington resident, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2025, at age 65, with her devoted husband George by her side.
Born May 28, 1960, in Randolph, Vermont, as the fourth of five Juliane Carters, Ann’s early life blended family warmth and academic excellence. Her father, Marvin Stanley Carter, graduated as valedictorian from Vermont Technical College shortly after her birth, setting a legacy Ann proudly continued.
Ann graduated from Mount Mansfield Union High School and pursued electrical engineering at Vermont Technical College, following her father’s path. She balanced studies with jobs at Big Burger in South Burlington and Lum’s, demonstrating early independence. Her education reflected a blend of technical skill and determination, shaping her thoughtful approach to life’s challenges.
She channeled her engineering background into a supportive role at the University of Vermont, where she worked in administrative support for over 20 years. Colleagues admired her organizational precision and empathetic guidance, often seeking her insight on complex projects. Her career allowed flexibility for family, embodying her belief in harmony between work and home.
Ann’s marriage to George Hudson, met during college, spanned 43 years, beginning with their 1982 wedding in Québec City after his transfer from RIT to UVM. They welcomed daughter Juliane Patricia Jouanicot (née Hudson) in 1985 following a miscarriage, and later Katelyn. As a mother, Ann’s nurturing extended to creating traditions like holiday knitting sessions that strengthened family ties.
Family remained Ann’s core, including her mother Juliane Carter, brothers Thomas (wife Karen) and M. Stanley (wife Anne), and grandchildren. Predeceased by her father Marvin S. Carter Jr., she was a pillar of compassion, offering quiet strength during hardships. Her home in Jericho and later Burlington overflowed with love and shared stories.
Ann’s passions included knitting intricate scarves and blankets as heartfelt gifts, alongside community acts of kindness like volunteering at local craft fairs. She enjoyed Vermont’s seasons through walks in the Champlain Valley, hobbies that mirrored her creative, generous soul. Her warmth fostered deep community connections in Burlington.
