With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of John Stanley Edwards, aged 94, of Knutton, who died peacefully on 29th January 2026 at Brindley Court Care Home, where he had resided for the last nine years.
A lifelong resident of the Newcastle-under-Lyme and Knutton area, John lived a long and full life marked by devotion to family, quiet dignity, and many years of faithful work. He was married to his beloved wife Norma for almost 71 years, and together they built a home filled with love, stability, and shared values that sustained them through decades of joys and challenges.
John was a much-loved Dad, Grandad, and Great-Grandad, as well as a greatly admired Father-in-Law. He took immense pride in his family, offering steady guidance, gentle humour, and unconditional support to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Family gatherings were filled with his stories, his warmth, and the simple pleasure of being together, creating memories that will be treasured for generations. John’s love for his wife, children, and extended family was the cornerstone of his life, and his legacy of devotion continues to hold them close even in this time of sorrow.
For 35 years John worked at Rist’s Wires and Cables in Newcastle-under-Lyme, where he earned deep respect from colleagues and management for his reliability, skill, and strong work ethic. He took pride in his craftsmanship and the role he played in a company that was a major employer in the area, contributing to the production of essential wiring and cables with the same care and consistency he brought to every part of his life.
John lived with simplicity, faith, and a deep appreciation for family and community. He enjoyed the routines of daily life—time with Norma, family visits, and the satisfaction of a hard day’s work well done. In Knutton and the surrounding areas, he was known as a gentleman of integrity and kindness whose presence brought comfort and steadiness to those around him. His final years at Brindley Court Care Home were marked by the same quiet dignity he carried throughout his life, and the staff and residents there will remember him fondly.
A funeral service to celebrate John Stanley Edwards’s life will take place at 2:40 p.m. on Tuesday, 3rd March 2026, at Bradwell Crematorium. Family, friends, former colleagues from Rist’s Wires and Cables, neighbours, and all who knew and respected him are invited to attend. The family has requested that attendees wear colourful clothes in honour of John’s life and the joy he brought to others.
