Family, friends and the community of Peoria, Illinois join together in mourning the passing of Gabriela B. Walke, who departed peacefully in the early morning of December 10, 2025, at Carle‑Methodist Hospital at the age of 57.
Born Gabriela Bucio Coronado on October 16, 1968, in Chicago to Juan and Antonieta Coronado (Bucio), she pursued higher education with determination, earning a master’s degree in public administration from Northern Illinois University. Relocating to Peoria in 1994 to begin her career in city government, she quickly became an integral part of the local landscape.
Throughout her professional journey in Peoria, Gabriela touched countless lives through multifaceted contributions, starting with her work in city administration where she applied her administrative skills to enhance public services. She extended her outreach through Hispanic community programs at Catholic Charities, bridging cultural gaps and providing essential support to underserved populations.
Additionally, she shared her linguistic talents as a Spanish and French teacher at Peoria Notre Dame High School and St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School, inspiring students with knowledge and cultural appreciation while fostering educational growth in faith-based environments.
Her vibrant faith animated every aspect of her existence, deeply involved in the Neocatechumenal Way across multiple parishes in the Peoria area, where she nurtured spiritual communities through active participation and missionary zeal. Notably, she dedicated one year to missionary work and teaching on the Islands of Turks and Caicos, embodying selfless devotion that enriched lives far beyond Illinois borders.
At the core of Gabriela’s world was her profound devotion to family, sharing a loving marriage with husband David L. Walke, Jr., and maintaining close ties with older brother Paul Coronado, his wife Kristine, and their children Emily, Zacharias, Joshua, Nathaniel, and Rosemary. She found joy in nurturing these bonds, offering encouragement and presence that strengthened familial unity amid her busy commitments. Preceded in death by parents Juan and Antonieta, and younger brother Sergio Bucio Coronado, her relational depth created enduring memories of warmth and support.
Gabriela B. Walke lived a life well lived, distinguished by professional excellence in public administration and education, missionary service in Turks and Caicos, active faith in the Neocatechumenal Way, and unwavering devotion to family in Peoria, Illinois.
