Charles Edward Mefferd (1938-2025) – A Lifelong Resident of Kearney, Nebraska, Has Passed Away

Charles Edward Mefferd of Kearney, Nebraska, passed away on January 4, 2026, at the age of 54, from complications of Parkinson’s disease at the Central Nebraska Veterans Home in Kearney. His passing has brought sorrow to his family and friends, who remember him as a man of resilience, faith, and devotion to those he loved.

Charles’s life was marked by strength and perseverance. Despite the challenges of illness, he carried himself with dignity and courage, inspiring those around him with his determination. His family recalls his unwavering love and the way he remained a source of encouragement even in difficult times.

He is survived by his children Kathleen Emry Mefferd, Brett, Chad, and Shawna Mefferd Kelty, as well as his stepchildren Cyndi McNaught, Robert, Rodney, and Myndi McGinley-Gunnink. His devotion to family was evident in the bonds he nurtured and the care he gave, leaving behind cherished memories that will continue to comfort his loved ones.

A memorial service will be held on January 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Kearney, Nebraska, with Pastor Sean Dougherty officiating. Inurnment will follow at a later date at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Valentine, where Charles will be laid to rest. This final act of remembrance will serve as a lasting tribute to his life and the impact he had on those who knew him.
