On December 18, 2025, Cathy Jo Baker, 74, passed away peacefully at her longtime home in Ligonier, Indiana, surrounded by her family. Her departure marked the close of more than four decades rooted in the same household, a space that reflected her devotion to family and faith.
She was born in Ligonier to Medford Talmadge and Flotilla Blanche (Hughes) Durham on June 13, 1951. Cathy grew up in Noble County, where her life was shaped by community ties, spiritual commitment, and joyful connections. Friends and neighbors now grieve the loss of a woman whose love of life and warmth left lasting impressions across generations.
On November 14, 1969, she married Howard Lee Baker, beginning a partnership of over fifty‑five years. Together they built a home grounded in shared values and mutual support. Professionally, Cathy devoted more than twenty‑seven years to BRC in Ligonier, where she advanced to a key role in shipping before retiring. Her career reflected reliability, teamwork, and dedication to the local manufacturing sector that sustained the region’s economy.
Her faith was central to her identity. As a member of Trinity Assembly of God Church, Cathy found fulfillment in worship and fellowship, centering her life on service to God and nurturing family bonds. She delighted in the companionship of dogs and extended her affection to people through welcoming gestures that made others feel included and cherished.
Cathy is survived by her husband, Howard; daughters Rhonda Lucas of Auburn and Dawn Byland of Ligonier; thirteen grandchildren; nine great‑grandchildren; sisters Peggy Baker of Cromwell, Patty Schofe, Norma Brewer, and Phyllis Durham of Ligonier; and sister‑in‑law Marge Durham of Ligonier. Visitation will be held on December 22, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Trinity Assembly of God Church, followed by funeral services at 12:30 p.m. led by Pastor Jeff Thomas. Burial will take place at Sparta Cemetery in Kimmell.
She was preceded in death by her parents and seven brothers—John, Morris, Bob, Bill, Tom, Jack, and Donald Durham. Cathy’s legacy continues through the bonds she nurtured and the joy she shared throughout Noble County. Her devotion to faith and family inspired unity and love in everyday life, and the community now honors her lasting impact.
