A beloved resident of Chelsea, Michigan, Barbara Ann Hochrein has sadly passed away on January 2, 2026, at the age of 91. Her life was defined by unwavering faith, tireless devotion to her church, and the quiet strength she carried into every role she embraced.
She was born on March 11, 1934, in Ann Arbor to Emanuel Carl and Elsie Barbara Seitz, and grew up in a family that instilled in her the values of compassion, community, and dedication. She carried those principles into adulthood, building her legacy in the towns of Dexter and Chelsea, where she became known for her warmth, reliability, and generous spirit.
Barbara’s lifelong commitment to Our Savior Lutheran Church in Chelsea stood at the center of her journey. As a charter member, she gave herself fully to acts of service, planning funeral dinners with care to comfort grieving families, teaching Sunday School with patience and creativity, and lending her voice to the choir for many years. Her leadership as president of the Phoebe Guild and Silver Streak group reflected humility and vision, strengthening fellowship and supporting missions that enriched the congregation.
Her devotion extended beyond the church walls. Barbara was an active member of Lambda Chi Omega Professional Women’s Organization, where she connected with women who valued leadership and civic engagement. She also contributed to the Ann Arbor Lionesses, participating in initiatives that uplifted those in need. These affiliations provided meaningful outlets for her talents and energy, while fostering friendships that endured for decades.
In her personal life, Barbara cherished her role as a mother, grandmother, and relative, creating traditions and memories that will live on in the hearts of her family. Her homes in Chelsea and Dexter were welcoming spaces where loved ones gathered for holidays, celebrations, and everyday companionship. She lived simply yet fully, finding joy in the rhythms of faith, service, and togetherness.
Barbara’s final years unfolded peacefully at the Chelsea Retirement Community’s Kresge Rehabilitation Center, where she received compassionate care. Surrounded by the same spirit of support she had given so freely throughout her life, she departed with dignity and grace.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Chelsea, officiated by Rev. Daniel Pezzica, followed by burial at Bethlehem Cemetery in Ann Arbor. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, January 8, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea, with additional time at the church on Friday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.
