The Bronx has recorded its third fatal shooting within a single week following the execution-style killing of 26-year-old Amir Ahmad, who was shot in the chest while seated in a parked BMW early Friday morning, according to the New York City Police Department.
The incident occurred at approximately 12:20 a.m. on February 13, 2026, in front of an apartment building at 660 Thwaites Place, near the intersection with Barker Avenue in the Pelham Parkway section of the borough, located steps from the New York Botanical Garden. Officers from the 49th Precinct responded to the scene and discovered Ahmad still conscious inside the vehicle, suffering from a single gunshot wound to his chest.
According to law enforcement sources and witness accounts, three men dressed entirely in black clothing approached the parked BMW and opened the driver’s side door before the shooting occurred. The brazen crew apparently attempted to rob the driver but failed, opening fire and striking Ahmad once in the chest before fleeing the scene on foot.
Police sources indicated that Ahmad was conscious at the scene and able to tell responding officers that he had been shot while sitting inside the parked vehicle. Emergency Medical Services rushed him to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The victim has been identified as Amir Ahmad, a 26-year-old resident of the Bronx. Police have not released additional information regarding whether Ahmad knew his attackers or what led to the apparent robbery attempt, and no arrests have been made as of Saturday. Detectives remain on the scene canvassing the area for surveillance video that could help them learn what led up to the shooting and identify the three suspects who remain at large.
Friday’s deadly shooting marked the borough’s third homicide in a single week, following the fatal shooting of a man at the 170th Street subway station on Tuesday and the killing of 16-year-old Christopher Redding in Kingsbridge on Wednesday night. The violence comes during the same week that Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch announced the NYPD would create a second patrol borough in the Bronx to better organize and manage police operations, bringing more than 200 additional officers to the borough.
Neighbors in the normally quiet Pelham Parkway area expressed shock at the brazen nature of the killing. “This is the first time I’m hearing this, I didn’t hear any gunshots,” one resident told News 12. The scene in front of 660 Thwaites Place has been transformed into an active crime scene as investigators work to piece together the circumstances of the apparent botched robbery that escalated to deadly violence in the early morning hours.
